On a Kinetic Model for Shallow Water Waves

چکیده

The system of shallow water waves is one of the classical examples for nonlinear, twodimensional conservation laws. The paper investigates a simple kinetic equation depending on a parameter " which leads for " ! 0 to the system of shallow water waves. The corresponding 'equilibrium' distribution function has a compact support which depends on the eigenvalues of the hyperbolic system. It is shown that this kind of kinetic approach is restricted to a special class of nonlinear conservation laws. The kinetic model is used to develop a simple particle method for the numerical solution of shallow water waves. The particle method can be implemented in a straightforward way and produces in test examples suuciently accurate results.

Experimental analysis of shock waves turbulence in contractions with rectangular sections

Formation of shock waves has an important role in supercritical flows studies. These waves are often occurring during passage of supercritical flow in the non-prismatic channels. In the present study, the effect of length of contraction wall of open-channel for two different geometries (1.5 m and 0.5 m) and fixed contraction ratio was investigated on hydraulic parameters of shock waves using ex...

Variational Principle for the Generalized KdV-Burgers Equation with Fractal Derivatives for Shallow Water Waves

The unsmooth boundary will greatly affect motion morphology of a shallow water wave, and a fractal space is introduced to establish a generalized KdV-Burgers equation with fractal derivatives. The semi-inverse method is used to establish a fractal variational formulation of the problem, which provides conservation laws in an energy form in the fractal space and possible solution structures of t...

Evaluation of underwater acoustic propagation model (Ray theory) in a river using Fluvial Acoustic Tomography System

Underwater acoustics is widely used in many applications, such as oceanography, marine biology, hydrography, fishery, etc. Different models are introduced to simulate the underwater acoustic propagation in the oceans and the seas. In this study, the Ray Theory model is used to simulate the acoustic wave propagation in a shallow-freshwater river (Gono River) located in western part of Japan. The...

Shallow Water Waves over Polygonal Bottoms

The traditional shallow water model for waves propagating over varying bathymetry depends for its derivation on the asymptotic analysis of a Dirichlet-Neumann operator. This analysis however is restricted to smoothly varying topographies. We propose an adaptation to one dimensional polygonal bottoms using the conformal mapping idea of Hamilton and Nachbin. The asymptotic analysis of the Dirichl...

Analytical Solution of Two Extended Model Equations for Shallow Water Waves by He’s Variational Iteration Method

In this paper, we consider two extended model equations for shallow water waves. We use He’s variational iteration method (VIM) to solve them. It is proved that this method is a very good tool for shallow water wave equations and the obtained solutions are shown graphically.
